After weeks of excitement and anticipation, Africa’s music fans have spoken at the sixth edition of Africa’s premiere annual music showcase, the MTV Africa Music Awards Johannesburg's 2016
Unfolding at the TicketPro Dome in Northgate,Johannesburg, South Africa on 22 October 2016, the exhilarating celebration of African music and achievement made its Joburg debut with an electrifying display of live performances and incredible state-of-the-art staging and lighting.
Nigerian pop sensation WizKid scooped three awards with wins in the prestigious Best Maleand Artist of the Year categories, and scoring one extra trophy for his featured performance on Best Collaboration.  South African starsCassper Nyovest and Emtee won for Best Liveand Best Hip Hop respectively, with Shekhinahand Kyle Deutsch scoring gold in Best Pop/Alternative.
Other deserving winners at the show included Nigerian artist Yemi Alade who walked away with the Best Female trophy. Kenyan Afro-pop band, Sauti Sol lifted the Best Group award, while Patoranking won the Song of the Yearcategory sponsored by Google for his chart-topping hit, “My Woman, My Everything”.
The excitement in the crowd was palpable as world-renowned South African jazz legend and Grammy award winner, Hugh Masekela, took to the stage to accept the Legend Award, for his indelible contribution to the music industry.  The Africa Reimagined award, a category honouring individuals reshaping the narrative around Africa, was awarded to youth activists,Vivian Onano and Mary Taedzerwa, for their pro-social activism on the continent.
Hosted by South African media darling Bonang Matheba supported by Nomzamo Mbatha andYemi Alade, the live telecast on MTV Base andMTV featured awards in 18 categories, presented by famous faces from around the continent, including Minnie Dlamini, Jackie Appiah, Weza, Navy Kenzo, R2Bees, Juliet Ibrahim, Sheeba, Somizi and Sizwe Dhlomo.
Thrilling collaborations from Africa’s foremost artists were the highlight of the show, includingKwesta and Stonebwoy, who performed a high-powered remix of Kwesta’s hit song “Ngud”.  Big winner Wizkid thrilled the crowd with rousing support from the world famous Soweto Gospel Choir.  The most touching moment of the night was a show-stopping tribute to late “Nkalakatha” of Kwaito, Mandoza, by legendsMdu, Trompies and DJ Cleo.
US Hip Hop star and nominee Future lit up the stage with hits “Wicked”, “Lowlife” and “Commas”, while the trophy for Best International went to Drake.
Commenting after the show, Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, said: “Tonight #MTVMAMA2016 brought the continent together, showcasing the amazing creativity and talent that Africa has to offer. This is a night for Africa to be proud of, and we are thrilled that the MAMA has once again delivered a powerful platform to celebrate African achievement.”

The sixth edition of the MTV Africa Music Video Awardshappened earlier tonight 22nd October 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa and the stars came out in super glam styles on the red carpet.

Cladded in showstopping styles, the obvious theme for the night was glam as the men were dapper with ladies in electrifying detailed looks.
Bonang Matheba's had multiple outfit changes with a first featuring a stunning velvet bustier with dramatic bodice with a train.

Yemi Alade who won Best Female Artist award also wore glam creative looks as a co-host walking the red carpet in an African themed braids do styled in a dome complete with an encrusted form fitting dress, statement neckpiece and big loop earrings taking a bold approach to  the African themed look.
MTV Base VJ Ehiz stood out in his fitting mustard look easily taking away the male best dressed look for the night. Korede Bello was stylish in a denim playsuit looking dapper and trendy all at the same time.

Falz Da Bahd Guy chose a bubblegum pink suit with Yceeopting for a duster over his smart casual look paired with white kicks. South African rapper Nasty C stood out with his funky look complete with snapback on the red carpet.

Wizkid wins Best Male Artist, African Artist of the Year

The Starboy singer also went ahead to win Best Collaboration for his feature in DJ Maphorisa's 'Soweto Baby'.

Wizkid  is biggest winner on the night going home with threeawards - Best Male, Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration Africa at the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) 2016.

The Nigerian pop star, was celebrated on the night, beating AKA, Black Coffee, Diamond Platnumz and Patoranking to the Best Male award.
The singer also went home with African Artist Of The Year edging out  Yemi Alade, Diamond Platnumz, Black Coffee and Sauti Sol.

The Star boy finally makes it a treble  winning award for Best Collaboration in DJ Maphorisa's  'Soweto baby', beating Patoranking's 'No kissing' featuring Sarkodie, AKA's 'Baddest' featuring Burna Boy, Khuli Chana and Yanga among others.
The award which held on Saturday October 22, 2016 at the Ticketpro Dome, Johannesburg, South Africa, also saw other artistes come out successful in various categories.
Other winners on the night include Cassper Nyovest (Best Live Act), Yemi Alade (Best Female), Sauti Sol (Best Group), Drake (Best International Act), Emtee (Best Hip hop act), Tekno (Best Breakthrough Act), Patoranking's 'My Woman, My Everything'  featuring Wande Coal (Song of The Year) among others.
The recognition meted out to Wizkid only goes to endorse his undeniable force in 2016 as seen in his exporting of African sound to the international music scene such as the chart topping record breaking international collaboration in 'One dance'.

The singer has since steadily been making waves, gaining strides and introducing the American and international music market to the peculiar sounds emanating from Africa.
This feat from the star boy is inspiring and encouraging other artists to push their music beyond the shores of Africa.

Beyond his personal music force, he has also supported other African acts - Ghanaian trio of R2Bees, Mr Eazi and Efya signing them to his Star Boy Worldwide imprint, and working on  a collaborative project with them.
All this and more shows Wizkid is well deserving of the honour bestowed on him as African Artiste of the Year at the MAMAs 2016.

Yemi Alade made statement in creative glam looks at the MTV Africa Music Video Awards (MAMA 2016) held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The singer who co-hosted the awards with Bonang Mathebaand Nomzamo Mbatha went home with the Best Female Artist Awards and showed off in showstopping style with details of her signature tribal theme in all her multiple outfit changes for the night.

The award winning singer chose a dazzling form fitting embellished dress complete with braids headwrap in a regal look to walk the red carpet making dramatic statement as she walked into the show.
She performed in a stunning cape dress paired with sequin bum shorts for the night showing off endless legs in the super stunning creation.

For hosting duties, the singer's outfit changes included an individual tassel detailed multicoloured dress, embellished floor length evening look with braid updo,  electric blue suit with print sash details belted to cinch her waist amongst other looks made up her outfit for the night.
