L.A. rapper Murs is attempting to rhyme his way into the Guinness Book of World Records with the longest continuous rap session.
According to Pitchfork,
there’s currently no Guinness record for the feat, but in order to
qualify, Murs has to keep recording for 24 hours. He began rapping at 9
a.m. PST on Wednesday (October 12) and is set to conclude Thursday at 11
a.m. PST, adding up to a whopping 26 hours. He’s granted one merciful
five-minute break every hour, and his material consists of original
compositions and hip-hop classics.
Murs conceived the stunt as a way to end the first season of his show Where You At? LA, and presumably as a way to test his love of (and endurance for) hip-hop. Speaking to Rolling Stone
before the marathon, he said, “Combining my own compositions with songs
I love by other artists should keep me amped up enough. If not, there’s
coffee and coffee.”
