Antonio Conte responds to Jose Mourinho’s claim that it was Chelsea’s decision to sell Mohamed Salah
The Egyptian has been a revelation since leaving Roma for Liverpool last summer |
Antonio Conte insists he sympathises with Jose Mourinho following the criticism he has received for overseeing Chelsea’s decision to sell Mohamed Salah.
Salah endured a troubled 18-month spell at Chelsea under Mourinho and was loaned out to Fiorentina before sealing a permanent move to Roma.
The Egypt international rediscovered his confidence and rebuilt his reputation in Serie A before returning to the Premier League in the summer following a £38million transfer to Liverpool.
Mourinho has regularly been criticised for his decision to sell Salah, and Kevin De Bruyne, during his second spell in charge of Chelsea, but on Thursday claimed it was the club’s decision to let the prolific forward go and Conte sypmathises with his predecessor’s plight.
He said: ‘This is not so simple because I think that we have to compare Salah from over four or five years ago, not with this Salah.
‘The Salah in the present he improved a lot and developed a lot. He developed his football and the experience in Italy was very important for him.
‘Now I am sure he is a different player compared to the past and for that reason it is difficult to have this comparison with this player.’
Mourinho on why Chelsea sold Salah
‘We decided to put him on loan and he asked for that as well. He wanted to play more minutes, to mature, he wanted to go and we sent him on loan to Fiorentina, and at Fiorentina he started to mature. Chelsea decided to sell him, OK?‘And when they say that I was the one that sold him it is a lie. I bought him. I agreed to send him on loan, I thought it was necessary, I thought that Chelsea had wingers… Some of them are still there like Willian, [Eden] Hazard and all those players already in a different level.
‘So the decision to send him on loan was a decision we made collectively, but after that, the decision to sell him and to use that money to buy another player wasn’t mine.
‘But even if it was, in football we make mistakes a lot of times, so many times some players develop in way we were not expecting, some others don’t reach another level like we thought they would, so I don’t even think this is a mistake, it is just part of the job.
‘But effectively I did buy Salah, I didn’t sell Salah, but it doesn’t matter. What matters is that he is a fantastic player, and I am really happy for everything that is happening for him and especially because he scores against everyone and he didn’t score against us in two games.’

Mark Hamil Reacts To Star Wars: Last Jedi Blacklash
While the movie was released back in December, cinephiles and fans alike haven't stopped dissecting and discussing Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Rian Johnson's subversive sequel shattered expectations for the space opera, and took the characters into new and unexpected places. But since Johnson took so many risks, there are plenty of critics who aren't fond of The Last Jedi, and have made their feelings known via social media. The newest sequel is certainly one of the most divisive installments in the Star Wars franchise, and now series protagonist Mark Hamill has spoken up about the backlash surrounding The Last Jedi. He said,
We were so lucky there wasn't social media when Empire Strikes Back came out. In those days you really had to take a lot of effort and sit down and say, 'Dear Mr. Hamill, why did you turn Harrison Ford into a coffee table? This is not right.' Now, it's wallop and send. It's so easy. Pure hatred can be delivered directly to your home in a nanosecond.
It looks like Mark Hamill has noticed how social media has changed the overall climate of filmmaking. Bad word of mouth (or word of Tweet) can kill a movie before it even has a chance. While The Last Jedi was still a critical and financial success, Hamill isn't sure how fans would have reacted to the original trilogy if social media were around to make opinions known.
Mark Hamill's comments to CNN does stand to reason, especially regarding the major twists in Empire Strikes Back. The bomb that Luke was Darth Vader's son was major, and one that definitely could have been spoiled if there was social media when the sequel arrived back in 1980. Additionally, Han's carbonite freeze was a big point of contention among OG fans, as Harrison Ford's signature character was basically the coolest part about the galaxy far, far away. Both of these twists might not have fared well on Twitter, but moviegoers had to actually speak to each other to share their ideas about the sequel (and the film largely considered the best in the franchise).
Star Wars fans are an interesting community. There are entire generations of fans, some of which have been following George Lucas' sci-fi world for decades. It's a property that means a lot to many moviegoers, which is what makes anticipation and fan expectations so sky high. While fans are delighted for each new installment to the franchise, it does seem hard to please them. J.J. Abrams' The Force Awakens was criticized for being too formulaic and close to A New Hope, while Rian Johnson was attacked for taking too many risks with The Last Jedi. Is there a happy medium, or do the cast and crew just need to accept that they're not going to please everyone?
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is available On Demand and for home purchase now. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies

Eric Garner's daughter slams Hillary Clinton and her campaign over emails about her father's death
Erica Garner, the daughter of Eric Garner, a black man who was killed in a chokehold by a NYPD officer in 2014, is slamming Hillary Clinton’s campaign Thursday, over leaked emails from the server of John Podesta, the Democratic campaign chairman, which revealed email conversations about using her father's death to protest gun violence. In the email, he wrote:
“I know we have Erica Garner issues but we don’t want to mention Eric at all? I can see her coming after us for leaving him out of the piece,” wrote Nick Merrill, a spokesman for the campaign. After the leak Erica wrote:
"I'm troubled by the revelation that you and this campaign actually discussed 'using' Eric Garner ... Why would you want to 'use' my dad," tweeted Erica Garner.
Clinton staffer Maya Harris wrote that Garner should not be included as he was not killed by gun violence. "I'm glad you had Maya on your team to explain why you won't be USING my dad in you f-----g gun violence piece... Black woman saved your a--" Garner tweeted
After her tweets, she started responding to tweets of her supporters and people against her stance.
Terrorists have finally been defeated - Rabe Abubakar
Abubakar also called on the media to celebrate and promote things that make Nigeria great.
The spokesman for the Defence Headquarters, Rabe Abubakar has announced that Boko Haram has finally been destroyed.
Abubakar also called on the media to celebrate and promote positive things that will make Nigeria great.
He said “Today, I am pleased to inform you that we have defeated Boko Haram. It is not an easy feat. Yes, you may hear that an inaccessible village has been attack or that there was an attack somewhere. But, that is the last kicking of a dying group,” he said.
“Check at the history of insurgency in the world, there is no country that has defeated insurgency under six to seven years like Nigeria. Is it Sri Lanka, Mali, Columbia or Somalia? Boko Haram is gone. It does not matter whether its so-called leader, Shekau is alive or dead,” he said.
“The war is not about him as a person, it is about his group and they have been defeated. There is no inch of soil in Nigeria, where Boko Haram’s flag is hoisted. No more! Boko Haram has been totally degraded, decimated and 100 per cent defeated, and may God never allow such kind of evil to re-appear in Nigeria again.
“Our success was noticed by Mali which has been battling with its own problem. One of Mali’s defence chief had to come to Nigeria to ask us how we did it. So, that is to tell you that Boko Haram is gone.”
Abubakar also revealed that the Army will soon launch out an operation that will deal with the menace of Fulani herdsmen.
He said “Let’s celebrate our success in the news, not the propaganda of terrorists and their sympathisers. Yes, we have also had casualties, but it’s like all conflicts.
“But, you can see that even developed and well secured countries such as France and Britain are not even totally immune from terrorism.
“I will appreciate if the press can focus on the good and positive things that make our country great. What do have to gain as a country when we promote headlines that will cause division and plant hatred and violence? This is the only country that we have. If anything happens and you leave this country, no matter where you find yourself, you are a refugee.”
This is following reports that Federal Government and Boko Haram have entered the final stage of negotiations for the release of more Chibok girls.
FG, Netherlands company to hold workshop on chemical weapons
Bolaji said the participants would be drawn from stakeholders in the public and private sectors in Nigeria.
The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) will host an international workshop on Assistance and Protection Against Chemical Weapons.
A statement by Mr Adebiyi Bolaji, Director of Press in the SGF office, in Abuja on Friday said the workshop would hold between Oct. 31 and Nov. 4.
Bolaji said the workshop was organised by the Political and Economic Affairs Department, in the SGF office in conjunction with the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Netherlands.
According to him, a team of experts from OPCW will participate at the workshop as resource persons.
“The workshop will focus on issues that seek to identify toxic threats and hazards; as well as support the development of national chemical risk assessment reports.
“It will also identify gaps based on the audit of country’s current capabilities and standards to be achieved in assistance and protection.
“It will finally assist in the development of a counter chemical threats capability as basis for a National Protection Programme,”he said.
Bolaji said the participants would be drawn from critical stakeholders in both the public and private sectors in Nigeria.
Makarfi-led PDP rejects clearance of Jimoh Ibrahim by INEC
Sen. Ahmed Makarfi led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the clearance of Mr Jimoh Ibrahim as the party’s candidate for Ondo State governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Thursday published Ibrahim’s name as candidate of PDP in the Nov. 26 state election.
The PDP National Caretaker Committee, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, in Abuja on Friday said that PDP had appealed the decision.
Adeyeye stated that the clearance of Ibrahim by INEC completely disregarded the Order of Justice Olamide of the Ondo State High Court.
The court had restrained INEC from substituting the name of its candidate, Mr Eyitayo Jegede.
Adeyeye said it was surprised that INEC chose instead, to pay heed to the order given by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
He said such actions had resulted in massive protests in many parts of Ondo State.
Adeyeye stated that the people of Ondo had taken to the streets to express displeasure at the schemes to deny their preferred candidate, Jegede, from contesting.
“It is worrisome that INEC and Justice Abang have insisted on towing a path of illegality by ignoring our validly convened primaries.
“They ignored the primary and the candidate produced thereafter in favour of a candidate who emerged from an illegal primary election exercise,” he said.
He described the current event as part of a ploy by external forces, to deprive Jegede and PDP of the chance of winning the election.
“We wish to urge our teeming members and supporters in Ondo State to resist the temptation to take law into their hands.
“We are aware of the plan of our political opponents to create chaos as a cover to achieve their dastardly objectives.
“We have filed the requisite appeals at the Court of Appeal. We believe that within the shortest possible time, these illegal actions will be reversed.
“We have faith in the judiciary that the illegalities will be reversed,”Adeyeye said.
He reassured PDP members and supporters in the state that, even if the reversal of those actions take place only a few days to the elections, PDP’s victory is certain.

Head of Britain's spy agency says James Bond won't get past the recruitment process in real life
Alex Younger who heads British intelligence agency MI6 has revealed that despite James Bond's many qualities, the fictional spy won't make it into the agency in real life because he doesn’t have the requisite qualities. Speaking to British website Black History Month, he said: “In contrast to James Bond, MI6 officers are not for taking moral shortcuts. In fact, a strong ethical core is one of the first qualities we look for in our staff.
It’s safe to say that James Bond wouldn’t get through our recruitment process and, whilst we share his qualities of patriotism, energy and tenacity, an intelligence officer in the real MI6 has a high degree of emotional intelligence, values teamwork and always has respect for the law… unlike Mr Bond!”

NINA DOBREV CELEBRATES 10 MILLION FOLLOWERS BY TAKING A 'SHOT' FOR EACH ONE
Cheers to Nina Dobrev for starting her Halloweekend with a bang. When she found out she just hit 10 million Instagram followers, she celebrated with
a lot of liquid courage in honor of her fans.
"To show my gratitude, I have decided to do 10 million shots," The Vampire Diariesalum joked in a hilarious video Friday (October 28). "This is for you guys."
Obviously no real alcohol was involved, because duh. But no liquor was necessary for Dobrev to act out her slow downward spiral. Shot #25 goes down easy, but the next couple thousand don't work out so well.
